Ted Potter Jr. Nabs First PGA Tour Win
The PGA Greenbrier Classic was missing the usual suspects, but a north central Florida man was more than willing to steal the spotlight in the final round of play. Ocala native and Lake Weir alum Ted Potter Jr. shot a final round 6-under 64 and won in a sudden-death playoff, earning his first PGA Tour victory. Potter Jr. was leader of the clubhouse at 16-under, and watched Troy Kelly miss a final birdie attempt on the 18th to force the playoff. After each player made par on the first playoff hole, Potter Jr. looked in prime shape on the next, chipping to within a few feet for a potential birdie-putt victory. But Kelly saved for a long par putt and Potter Jr. couldn't connect on his birdie attempt, instead settling for par as the two went to a third playoff hole. Potter Jr. didn't let the miss affect him on the next tee-box, hitting his nine-iron pure and again landing to within feet of the pin. After Kelly missed his birdie chance, Potter Jr. nailed his birdie and took home the prize of $1,098,000. Potter Jr. also earned a spot in the Masters, something the 28-year-old listed as a career goal.
