Countdown to Kickoff: Florida State
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida State football yearns for the glory days of the 1990s, and Jimbo Fisher may not have them too far off from past success.
The Seminoles are ranked preseason top 10 for the second-straight season, and title hopes are high in Tallahassee.
FSU returns practically all of their playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, including senior quarterback E.J. Manuel.
On defense, Florida State ranked fourth overall nationally in 2011, and second-best against the run only behind national champion Alabama.
With a wealth of young talent on the defensive line, the Seminoles should be stout against the run again.
But FSU faces the challenge of replacing cornerback Greg Reid, who was kicked off the team in August, and getting over the habit of losing winnable games, having lost three of their four last season by a total of 11 points.
