Gators Earn Active Ankle Volleyball Title
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Mary Wise knows she has plenty of talent on her team.
It's just a matter of getting her youthful players to gain some valuable gametime experience.
No. 15 Florida hosted Jacksonville, Louisiana, and Georgia Tech in the 2nd annual Active Ankle Challenge, and earned three victories over the weekend tournament.
On Saturday, the Gators defeated the Ragin' Cajuns in the afternoon in four sets (25-15, 25-14, 23-25, 25-12) and followed up the win with a four-set victory over Georgia Tech in the nightcap (22-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-22).
Freshman Ziva Recek was named the tournament MVP, amassing a career-high in kills (23), aces (3), and points (27.0) against the Yellow Jackets.
Over the weekend, the Slovenian player totaled 49 kills on a .417 attack percentage.
Senior Tangerine Wiggs also earned All-Tournament Team honors, hitting .455 with 31 kills and eight blocks over three matches.
