TV20 STUDIO - Hubert talks about a tough decision by Yankees manager Joe Girardi to bench Alex Rodriguez, the highest paid player in baseball at $30-million, sending up 40-year-old pinchhitter Raoul Ibanez who smacked a bottom-of-the-ninth homer in Game 3 of the playoff series with Baltimore, tying the score…then, in the 12th, Ibanez hit another home to win the game.
It led to a Game 5 ouster of the Orioles, where A-Rod was benched and Ibanez knocked in New York’s first run.
At $1.1-million, the 17-year-old veteran makes just six-tenths of one percent of the $196-million Yankee payroll. New York moves on to play Detroit for the American League championship.
