Nelson, Mack Disagree More Than Agree on Debates
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - When it comes to debates, Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson and Republican Rep. Connie Mack IV agree on only one thing.
Both have been invited to participate in four Senate debates, but they have only agreed to an Oct. 17 event organized by Leadership Florida and the Florida Press Association.
Mack's campaign said on Friday they've accepted a Fox News debate for Sept. 9. They've previously accepted an invitation for a debate hosted by Gannett and a CBS affiliate in Tampa.
Nelson's campaign says it currently plans to stick to the two debates it accepted, the other is proposed by CNN/Tampa Bay Times. In early June, Mack's campaign told the Times it would accept, though it has since openly criticized the newspaper for its campaign coverage and now won't participate.
