Plane Crash-Fishing Host
EVERGLADES CITY, Fla. (AP) - Investigators are at the site of a small plane crash in southwest Florida that apparently killed the host of a popular fishing show.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. The Naples Daily News reports an investigator was sent Saturday to Everglades City to help determine the cause of the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration and the manufacturer of the single-engine plane, Comp Air 8, also will send representatives to help with the investigation.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office said the small planed owned by Jose Wejebe crashed into a field Friday afternoon shortly after taking off from an Everglades City airpark. Authorities believe Wejebe was killed in the crash but had not officially confirmed the lone victim's identity.
The Cuban-born angler hosted "Spanish Fly," a saltwater fishing show on the Outdoor Channel.
