American Grad Student Attacked by Chimpanzees in South Africa
Published July 2nd, 2012
SOUTH AFRICA- A Texas University graduate student, is now off the critical list in a South Africa hospital after being attacked by two chimpanzees.
26 year-old Andrew Oberle was savagely attacked by chimpanzees last Thursday when he entered a restricted zone between two security fences outside the chimp enclosure.
Two adult male chimpanzees apparently became angry, grabbing Oberle by the legs and dragging him half way under the barrier, as he fought to stop them.
Tourists looked on in horror as the chimps dragged Oberle one hundred feet into a public space and mauled him.
Neither of the chimps involved in the mauling will be euthanised, though they have been put into isolation .
