Hollywood trophy season is getting underway.
The Spirit Awards nominations have come out.
The oddball romance "Silver Linings Playbook" starring Bradley Cooper picked up five nominations.
It is tied with "Moonrise Kingdom" for the most nominations.
The Spirit Awards honors independent film with budgets between $500,000 or less to productions that cost as much as $20 million.
Winners will be announced in February.
Brad Pitt is not only the star of "Killing Them Softly", he is also the film's producer.
Walking the red carpet at the movie's New York premiere, Pitt said that with his production company Plan B Entertainment, he hopes to continue his work behind the scenes.
Pitt: it took a lot of people to push it, pull it together, push the idea, develop the story, and it's a great creative process.
I really enjoy it.
Rock star Lenny Kravitz has played supporting roles in movies but until now he has not been the lead. But that's all changed, Kravitz has signed on to play singer Marvin Gaye in a biopic that will be shot next year.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, the singer will portray Gaye during the 1980s when he was fighting his addictions and attempting to restart his career.
Gaye died in 1984 after being shot by his father.
