Late night comedian David Letterman was among the recipients of The Kennedy Center Honors in Washington.
They are the nation's highest cultural awards.
President Obama greeted the honorees at a White House Reception.
Dustin Hoffman was also honored for his long film career, as well as the surviving members of the heavy-metal band Led Zeppelin.
The stars were shining in Hollywood over the weekend at Governors' Awards of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Director George Lucas and actors, Tom Hanks and Will Smith, turned out to honor the winners, including Studio CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Helen Hunt was also there, along with Richard Gere.
"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" continues to howl at the Box Office.
It took in 17.4 million dollars at the Box Office to win 1st place for the weekend.
James Bond was just a fraction behind, with "Skyfall" finishing a close 2nd.
Steven Speilberg's "Lincoln" rounded out the top 3.
