According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been more than 140 mass shootings across the country in just 2021.
And it has happened in Marion County.
“The most memorable one for us was obviously Forest High School. Thousands of kids attending that high school and a young man walks in there with a gun and started shooting and injured someone,” MCSO Public Relations Director, Sgt. Paul Bloom said.
Sheriff’s officials said it’s best to have a plan, so you can know exactly what to do in case of an emergency situation.
Where to hide, how to block a door, and what can be used as a weapon.
“One of the things I like to tell people is, we live in the yellow some where. Living in the green, everything is good. It’s happy, nothing bad is going to happen today. Living in the red is where you’re too nervous about everything, you can’t live in that red, you can’t live in the green, somewhere in the yellow where you’re cautious, you’re aware and have a plan. That’s the biggest thing is having a plan,” Bloom added.
And practicing that plan might just one day save our lives and the lives of others around us.
