GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies started another search Wednesday morning for Delia Young, the 13-year-old girl reported missing on Saturday, May 15.

Deputies say a tip and other evidence led them to search an area in Northern Alachua County near an abandoned hotel on County Road 236, just off I-75 Wednesday morning. They say the search is a recovery effort, as the child is presumed dead. However, deputies say they always hope to find someone alive until they find a body.

On May 27, Delia’s legal guardian, Marian Williams, 57, told deputies Delia was dead. She said her sister, who is Delia’s aunt, Valerie Young, beat her with an electric cord, which led to her death.

During the confession, Williams said Delia was alive when she went to sleep. She said the next morning, after finding the child dead on her bedroom floor, she and Valerie conspired to hide the body.

Williams also said when she went back to the house they had left the body at, it was missing.

On Saturday, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies asked for help from Columbia and Union County Sheriff’s Offices in searching areas in their counties.
