GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -On Saturday June 5, Audrey Cheves was killed in a car accident near the intersection of 13th St and 39th Ave.

At this time, Gainesville Police Department has not filed any charges.

Her mother, Melissa Cheves, is still in the hospital. Her and the other survivor of the crash are in critical condition.

Audrey was a member of the Gainesville High School marching band and did color guard for a majority of her high school years. She performed in the color guard team, following her mother’s footsteps.

Staff of GHS said she was a sweet soul and always lent a hand to help in any way possible along with her family.

Audrey’s 18th birthday was June 3, just days before the fatal accident.

“She just was graduating high school and turned 18 a couple days ago and got accepted into Santa Fe. She was looking so forward to everything. You just never know,” DeAnna Green-Bukowski, a long-time friend of the Cheves family, said.

A GoFundMe was created by Lisa Barrs, a close friend, to help the family with bills, groceries, and any other expenses during this difficult time. She said that donations are appreciated, but prayers are needed even more.

“Audrey was a really giving person. Caring, sweet, funny, always thought of herself last. Just, you know, a daughter than anyone would love to have. Everybody was always really proud of her,” Barrs said.

As of June 7, her mother is still in a coma and has not regained consciousness since the initial accident.

Friends and family members are hoping for her full recovery for Audrey’s father and younger sister’s sake.

A memorial service has not yet been scheduled.
