GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - “The Journey from Hope to Healing” is a story of prevailing over PTSD, published by author Margaret Combs. She was led to write the book while attempting to help a friend, a military physician, through struggles with severe PTSD.

“With the death of my friend, by his own hand, that awareness became determination to learn as much as possible about the condition and what could be done to help,” said Combs. “There is life after the war, after the battles and they can go on and live highly productive and enjoyable lives.”

The story follows four veterans battling four different kinds of PTSD while helping them find ways to live successfully with afflictions from war. She stresses the importance of proper care.

“It’s time that we, as a society, create an environment where treatment is common and accepted as something good and something you need to do. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, it’s something to be proud pf because they went and fought for us all,” Combs said.

In addition to the book, Combs has researched and created a list of resources offering help and free services for veterans.
