Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy honored with medal of valor

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy is being recognized for stopping an attempted suicide.

Deputy Josh Pettit was awarded the medal of valor for preventing a woman from jumping onto Interstate 75.

While the woman was hanging over the side of the bridge Pettit grabbed her -and kept her from possibly falling or jumping.

The medal goes to those who quote “exhibit an outstanding act of valor involving high risk of imminent personal danger that preserves the safety of human life.”
