GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -With its variety of programs, an athletic director role at Santa Fe College is a job worth aspiring to.

Greg McVey is excited to take over the athletic director role at Santa Fe College and to help student athletes reach their full potential.

“I want people at the end of the day to go the Saints do it the right way and that means on the field, in the classroom, and that means certainly in the community as well.”

McVey, who has over 20 years of experience in college athletics, most recently oversaw an athletic department with 15 intercollegiate sports programs at Garden City Community College in Kansas. He is aware of the challenge he has working with student athletes in a two year program.

“When you only have two years to work with student athletes, you really have to accelerate the process. You really have to do what you’re trying to do in four years in two years, so in terms of developing them academically, socially, and certainly on the field, court or course, you certainly have to be really intentional on what you are doing and really speed up the process.”

Now at Santa Fe, McVey said as athletic director, one of his main priorities is working on being the best in what he calls the three C’s.

“I think my job as the athletic director is to ensure that our student athletes are having the best possible experience they can have in classroom, in the community, and in competition. Those are my three C’s, and those are the king of things that guide my work.”

But, in the mean time, his goal for the first year is to be the greatest asset he can be to everyone on campus.

“First off, I need to learn everything. I did learn about the school and the history of where we’ve been and where we want to go, and then I just want to be a good teammate to everybody else on campus, you know be here as a partner to help out others reach their goals as well.”

McVey has already started working closely with the coaching staff at Santa Fe to ensure a smooth transition to benefit the student athletes for the fall.
