New court details involving the hit-and-run of a University of Florida freshman Maggie Paxton

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - We have new court details involving the hit and run death of 18-year-old University of Florida freshman Maggie Paxton

The Paxton family filed a complaint for wrongful death against Miguel Figueroa.

Figueroa is the offender named in court documents as the owner of the BMW that hit Paxton in December of 2020.

Figueroa’s defense claims Paxton was not using a marked crosswalk.

Paxton’s parents say she used the crosswalk at the intersection of University Avenue. and Gale Lemerand Drive.

The defense also states while Figueroa owns the BMW in question, the driver involved in the incident is still unknown.
