GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The Humane Society of North Central Florida is teaming up with Hailes Angels Pet Rescue and Puppy Hill Farm Animal Rescue for their biggest free adoption event of the year -- North Florida Pet Adoption Days.

From June 11 through June 20, all pets are free to adopt with the exception of puppies four months and younger, according to Director of Advancement Margot DeConna.

“We coming together to adopt out free pets who are fully vetted, microchipped, vaccinated, spayed and neutered,” said DeConna.

She said they were expecting to see a slow down of adoptions following the pandemic, but hundreds of adoptions are happening each month. Despite reports of an increase in pet returns across the country, DeConna said that trend does not hold true in North Central Florida.

“Here locally we never have more than a 10% rate of return annually for pets that are adopted out and we’re seeing that same hovering around that same percentage around 7%,” said DeConna.

Applications must be submitted online in advance and adoptions will be done by appointment only. For more information on the adoption event click here.
