GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after an armed disturbance led to Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Deputies shooting a man.

A sheriff’s office spokesperson said the man has died but it is unclear at this time what exactly caused his death. At 6:45 officers responded to the disturbance on Northeast 69th Avenue. Deputies said the man was armed with a large blade and lifted it as if he was going to swing, that’s when deputies fired.

The man was hit and he ran into a home. They negotiated with the man for hours before they said he lit the home on fire. FDLE agents will investigate the case to determine if the man died of gunshots or the fire and if any wrongdoing occurred. No one else was injured.
