GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Officers with the Gainesville Police Department responded to a call at 1:20 Friday afternoon about a man being shot outside his apartment at the Point Apartments located at 3100 S.W. 35th Place.

Officials say the man who allegedly shot his neighbor actually called 911 and was later taken in for questioning. When officers arrived, they found the man’s body at his front door. He was taken to UF Health Shands where he later died.

They say the gunfire followed a long-time dispute between the two men. People who live nearby say the two men have been arguing for months over loud music.

Adaline Phan said she heard the gunshots but thought it was a car backfiring on the street. She is now considering moving.

“I heard like 3 or 4 shots because I’m in the backyard across from it,” said Phan “I didn’t think anything like this would happen. I usually walk my dog around the area where it happened so it’s a little scary. I’m definitely going to be a lot more cautious in the future.

Officers said they will be contacting the victim’s family. We’ll bring you the names of both men as soon as police release those details, along with what charges the suspect will be facing.
