Car accident causes road closure in Ocala
OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - An incident of car versus pole caused road closures in Ocala Monday morning.
Marion County Fire Rescue and Ocala Electric Utility worked to clear a car accident that occurred around 9:15 a.m. A silver SUV had hit a concrete pole at a fast speed, the pole then fell on top of the car.
The driver was pinned in his car with active power lines stopping firefighters from getting to him. Ocala Electric Utility crews removed the lines allowing the firemen to remove the driver.
Firemen say it took 26 minutes to remove him from the wreck, he was then transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The southbound lane of Baseline Road and SE 24th Street remains closed while crews work to clear the area.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
