TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Florida Capital Bureau) - College students are trying to get federal immigration agents off their campuses.

Students from across the state protested the 287 (g) agreements outside the Florida Police Chiefs Association in Tallahassee Thursday morning.

The 287 (g) program allows campus police to enforce immigration laws.

Several public universities around the state have signed this agreement.

However, students like Shania Soleil Brown, a partner of Florida Student Power, said it’s a scare tactic and they don’t feel safe.

“To discriminate against Black and brown students that are heavily rooted on our campus, there is no place for ICE officers on our campus,” Brown said.

The Florida Police Chiefs Association declined to comment.

Most law enforcement agencies in the state have an option to sign a 287(g) agreement.
