‘I feel awful’: Residents react to Outreach Thrift Store fire
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Gainesville fire rescue crews responded to the Outreach Thrift Store, a well-known consignment shop, as it went up in flames around 10:30 Tuesday night.
The building is located on Northwest 6th Street and Northwest 23rd Avenue, near the Oakview neighborhood.
Theri Aguiar, a resident, says that, while brush fires and wildfires can be normal, this fire seems odd.
“Somebody’s doing it,” She claimed. “ Just walking by with a little blow torch leaving a fire behind them… there’s too many it’s odd I’ve lived here a long time… old people sometimes get a sense about them, and I’m saying something ain’t right.”
Gainesville fire rescue leaders are investigating the cause, but for now fire line tape and scorched walls occupy the front of the building.
The Outreach Thrift store is known for providing gently used clothing and household goods to all of North Central Florida.
No injuries were reported.
