LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) - The U.S. Forest Service team watching the Gun Range wildfire near Lake City is getting smaller as the blaze gets closer to being contained.

The 130-acre fire burning in the Osceola Forest just outside of Lake City is now 85% contained. Firefighters say rain helped keep the flames at bay.

The fire started around two weeks ago, and U.S. Forest Service crews have been working on it ever since. Members of the crew say North Central Florida has been a nice stop and very accommodating while they’ve been fighting fires.

“I wanna thank everyone in Columbia County, Baker County, Lake City for the hospitality you’ve shown the Southern Area Gold Team over the last two weeks,” said Jon Wallace, incident commander for Southern Area Incident Management Team 3. “It’s always great when one of our southern area teams gets to stay in the south[...]because of the hospitality.”

The crew is getting smaller as containment wraps up.
