Duval County child murder case to end with scheduled execution at Florida State Prison in Starke

RAIFORD, Fla. (WCJB) - A man convicted in the 1996 killing of a 5-month-old child is set to be executed next month.

Andrew Lukeheart, 53, is scheduled to die by lethal injection on June 2 after the governor signed his death warrant.

Lukeheart was convicted of killing his girlfriend’s infant daughter in Duval County nearly three decades ago.

Authorities say he repeatedly attacked the child before disposing of her body in a pond.

According to state officials, Lukeheart is expected to be the ninth execution carried out in Florida this year.
