Students in High Springs roll into bicycle safety month
HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB) -Students in High Springs celebrated Bike and Roll to School Day on Wednesday morning.
Every year, the city of High Springs and various non-profits host the event, where students and their parents ditch the four wheels for two.
“May is bicycle safety month,” Jordyn Zyngier, the coordinator for Safe Kids NCFL shared. “And the first Wednesday of the month is National Bike and Roll to school day, so communities across the country are promoting safer riding habits and coordinating community bike rides to school.”
Firefighters, law enforcement, and various nonprofits led bikers around the heart of downtown and throughout neighborhoods into a safe passage to High Springs Community School.
This year, they added a ‘Bike Bus’ element, which is a large procession of bicycle riders, led by adults.
Two routes started at 7:15, one by the Bailey Estates neighborhood entrance and the other at the old school community center.
