GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A domestic disturbance call in Gainesville led to a federal prison sentence for a local man on drug and firearm charges.

Prosecutors said 30-year-old Khalil Barnett was sentenced to seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to the charges.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a domestic dispute in August when Barnett allegedly fled from authorities. Investigators said he dropped a loaded firearm and a bag containing roughly 600 grams of marijuana while running from deputies.

Federal prosecutors later charged Barnett in connection with the incident, resulting in the seven-year sentence.
