HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB) -Mother’s Day celebrations kicked off a day early this year in High Springs, with a full slate of locally organized activities—from breakfast to downtown shopping and a meal out.

The morning began with a Mother’s Day breakfast hosted by the High Springs New Century Woman’s Club. Organizers partnered with Child and Behavioral Family Services, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the nonprofit.

“It’s a community-building thing and anytime we can support local stuff—charitable things—we’d like to do that,” said local residents Eric Paulsen and Danielle Paulsen.

After breakfast, many headed across the street for a downtown “store crawl” that started at 9 a.m. at Decades on Main. Participants picked up a punch card and map directing them to other participating shops. Those who collected a punch from each store were entered into a drawing for a gift basket valued at up to $300.

“Just appreciation for the mothers and letting them get out and do something fun on their weekend,” said Jody Huey and Reva Huey, owners of Decades on Main. “We really want everybody to see all of High Springs… our retail area downtown… and then after that, we have several great restaurants in town that they can visit and just make it a full day experience.”

What started as a celebration ended the same way—with a full day dedicated to supporting moms across the community.
