UF alum, best-selling author holds book signing event in Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - With graduation season in full swing, young people everywhere are leaving the classroom and entering the job market.
Amy Summers is a University of Florida alum and best-selling author. In her recent novel “Lift”, Summers wrote about the importance of investing in others when building your career path.
In an interview with TV20’s Kristin Chase, Summers says the new wave of AI makes standing out even more important when starting your career.
“Don’t do what everybody else is doing,” said Summers. “Don’t rely on the technology.”
She emphasized the importance of the “human touch.” An art she explained as getting past the screens and developing critical thinking skills through simply being with people.
Summers talked about how it is more important to be aggressive rather than perfect when creating your network.
“I hired somebody this week,” said Summers. “She read my entire book, made an Amazon review, she followed me on socials. I couldn’t ignore her.”
Summers will host a book signing Wednesday at Ilene’s Gator Store, 2441 N.W. 43rd St., Gainesville, from 5 to 8 p.m. Summers encourages the community to join her for some career advice if you are struggling.
