Video shows bystanders rescue woman, child trapped in flipped van on I-75 in Marion County
MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) — New video shows the rescue of several people, including two children, from a rollover crash in Marion County on Tuesday.
Truck driver Ray Reavis recorded the rescue and reacted to the moment he said complete strangers jumped in to save those trapped.
“In this day and age where people get sued and taken into court for trying to help people, and trying to do the right thing, a lot of people just aren’t going to help it.” said Reavis. “They don’t want the responsibility or the risk, but these guys just jumped in there and freed the people.”
Reavis shared when he arrived, he noticed a male passenger, a female driver, a young girl, and an infant were trapped inside the van.
The crash happened at County Road 484 and I-75 on Tuesday. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the van collided with another vehicle, after the van could not see incoming traffic as it was heading onto the Southbound ramp.
Reavis shared while at the scene, he provided other Good Samaritans with sledgehammers to help free the trapped passengers.
“They did what needed to be done. They didn’t know who was in there or what nationality they were what color they were, or anything. They are just you know, jumped in to be good citizens.”
