Shandcair workers recognize National EMS Week
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Sunday marks the beginning of National EMS Week, where the nation recognizes all those who render medical services.
EMS workers with Shandcair, the critical care transport system of UF Health Shands Hospital, team up with Huddy’s Escape in Gainesville for a two-day, fun-filled training and team bonding exercise.
“I took an idea of just like an escape room, you know, you escape these rooms, go to other rooms, taking care of patients along the way. And then your goal is to be done in an hour,” Todd Brooks, the Chief Flight Nurse shared. “ And it just so happens that, you know, the golden hour of trauma is one hour…and that’s how long you usually get to get out of these escape rooms.”
This is their third annual escape room, open to paramedics, EMTs, registered nurses, and paramedic students, hosted at Santa Fe College.
The games begin Monday, and the Shandcair team will also host a BBQ on Thursday to honor EMS providers.
