Annual Point in Time count results show lower numbers of homeless people in North Central Florida
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - This year, we’re seeing lower numbers of homeless people in North Central Florida as a result of the annual Point-in Time count
The point-in-time count is conducted nationwide every January to provide a federally required count of homelessness trends.
Numbers released by the agency identified 613 homeless people, and that’s down from 887 last year and includes people in shelters and on the street.
The official 2026 point-in-time count results for Alachua, Bradford, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, Putnam, and Union counties surveyed 613 people experiencing homelessness across North Central Florida. This includes 414 residents in shelters and 199 residents living on the street.
According to the count, overall, North Central Florida is experiencing a substantial decline in homelessness since 2023, when 1,006 people were surveyed across the region.
