GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Stephen Foster Elementary School alumni are getting to make one final visit to a school they love.

By invitation only, alumni were invited back to reminisce with their fellow classmates or even staff members. Many said this school holds so many special memories.

Many agree that the closure of this school is a loss to the community and future generations.

One former teacher said she taught music for 28 years, so it’s hard to have to say goodbye to a place she spent so much time and helped so many students.

“It’s a small school, and all of the teachers were just very good friends and everyone felt like a family here, and we had some good times,” said Hannah Heffington, a former teacher. “We had some great times, had great kids, and great teachers, and it was a family. It was a home.”

Stephen Foster will close at the end of this school year as a result of recent Alachua County Public Schools rezoning.
