Gainesville commissioners approve rate changes for towing, booting fees
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Gainesville city commissioners approved a resolution regarding fees for towing and booting of vehicles in city limits during a meeting on Thursday.
City commissioners passed a resolution to cap the immobilization fee, commonly known as booting, at $80. City staff had recommended a $65 cap. City officials estimate the average cost of boot removal is $120.
The approved resolution also established the towing fee within city limits at $160, the same as the Alachua County fee.
Commissioners also discussed a proposed ordinance to end roam towing and booting. If approved, property owners would have to request towing and booting services.
The proposed ordinance would also limit who could be issued towing permits to prevent people with certain criminal histories, including sex crimes.
