Memorial Day travelers report aggressive driving on Marion County highways
OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - Millions of Americans are traveling for the holiday weekend, with Florida roads already filling up.
In Marion County, travelers say it’s not just the crowded roads causing concern; many drivers are also noticing more aggressive behavior behind the wheel.
AAA projects more than 45 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday and Memorial Day Monday, making this one of the busiest holiday travel weekends in recent years.
More than 39 million people are expected to hit the roads, and drivers in Marion County say they’re already seeing packed highways, impatient motorists, and dangerous driving behaviors.
Travelers describe seeing speeding, sudden lane changes, tailgating, and frustrated drivers weaving through heavy traffic as more people head south for the holiday weekend.
According to AAA, Orlando is expected to remain one of the top Memorial Day destinations in the nation.
Because of that, several Marion County residents say they are staying local, to avoid crowded and potentially dangerous roads.
AAA is reminding drivers to stay alert, avoid aggressive driving, and practice patience behind the wheel.
