Family mourns after fatal hit-and-run on Archer Road; investigation underway
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A fatal hit-and-run early this morning left the family of 34-year-old Michael Dixon grieving the loss of a son, twin brother, and uncle.
Dixon’s family told TV20 the incident happened around 3 a.m. They said Dixon was riding with two friends on Archer Road when their vehicle ran out of gas, forcing them to pull over to the side of the road. Dixon’s friends stayed with the car while Dixon walked with a gas container to the nearest gas station to get fuel.
After a period of time passed and Dixon didn’t return, his friends realized something was wrong, his family said.
Family members said Dixon was hit by a vehicle while walking to get gas. His mother and twin sister waited at the scene, emotional and searching for answers.
TV20 spoke with Dixon’s twin sister, Rachael Dixon, who said her brother was loved in the community and will be deeply missed.
Authorities said an investigation is underway to identify the driver involved. Investigators spent much of the morning mapping out the scene, and the intersection remained blocked for several hours.
