Newberry man arrested for attacking 75-year-old mother over travel dispute

NEWBERRY, Fla. (WCJB) — A Newberry resident was booked into jail after being accused of attacking his 75-year-old mother because she refused to help him travel to South Florida for a court date in another case.

Chad Michael Rosemeyer, 49, was arrested Monday on a battery charge.

Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies say he was arguing with his mother through a closed door. When she opened the door, deputies say he slammed it on her hand.

She tried to call 911. Deputies say Rosemeyer grabbed her phone and threw it under the rug to stop her. He has a prior battery conviction from 2010.
