Arrests made after Gainesville Airbnb housed two unwelcomed guests
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Drugs, removed light bulbs, and a broken dog door were a few things the Gainesville Police Department officers found upon arriving to an Airbnb on Tuesday. The owner says the two people found staying there were not welcome renters.
Officers arrived on Northeast 7th Street to a home that felt very lived-in. Clothes and a Publix shopping cart were strewn about the backyard, while the inside showed the two had cooked meals and used the refrigerator.
Upon contact with law enforcement, one unnamed defendant listed in the arrest report said he did not stay at the property. Taylor Marie, 28, was located and arrested after law enforcement spoke with the man.
Marie said she met the man on Monday and invited him to stay with her at the home. A small glass pipe was found in her bag, she said she used it to smoke ‘ice.’
After her arrest, Marie said she lived at and had a key to the residence, and was given permission by “you” to live there, the report says.
A cleaning crew member who represents the Airbnb owner estimated the damages to the home would cost around $250. The Publix shopping cart is valued at $1,200.
