GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County Sheriff Chad Scott released a statement Saturday, announcing the firing of a deputy who was arrested on counts of aggravated assault and battery.

Leviticus Murray was arrested early Friday morning after investigators say he assaulted multiple women during a fight and threatened to shoot people gathered at a home in Cross City. Murray was previously employed as a deputy with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

Scott says an internal investigation into Murray’s arrest was closed within 12 hours. He was fired shortly after.

“In situations like this, transparency is essential,” said Sheriff Scott, “We strengthen the trust of our community by holding accountable anyone who dishonors the badge.”
