Santa Fe High School student arrested for claiming to have a bomb on campus, Alachua PD says
ALACHUA, Fla. (WCJB) - Officers arrested a 14-year-old girl accused of claiming to have a bomb on campus at Santa Fe High School.
According to the Alachua Police Department, a school guidance counselor heard a student say, “She doesn’t even know I have a bomb in my backpack.”
The counselor reported the comment to school administrators, and the student was removed from class. Nothing of concern was found in her backpack or on her person.
The girl reportedly admitted to making the comment and claimed it was intended as a joke. Another student also confirmed the comment was made.
The student was arrested on the charge of making a false report concerning planting a bomb, an explosive, or a weapon of mass destruction. She was also suspended from school.
“The Alachua Police Department takes all threats involving schools seriously,” the police department stated. “Comments involving bombs, weapons, or violence are not jokes and can result in serious criminal consequences, even when no actual threat is found.”
