GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - In honor of National Cancer Survivors Month, an annual butterfly release ceremony was held Friday morning.

HCA Florida North Florida Hospital hosted the butterfly release at their duck pond, located at 6400 W Newberry Road. Locals including hospital leaders, physicians, cancer survivors, loved ones, and city representatives were invited.

HCA Florida Healthcare officials say that this month is a time to honor those who have survived cancer, and support those who have recently received a diagnosis. The choice to release butterflies was to signify resilience, hope, and the strength show by those touched by cancer.
