Gainesville Cub Scout troop kicks off summer with foam party
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Members of a Gainesville Cub Scout troop are kicking off summer vacation with a foam party.
Cub Scout Pack 127 covered the front lawn of the Burt Ames Scout Cabin with foam today. Kids were encouraged to bring their swim gear to enjoy the summer fun.
The pack’s Cub Master says the event is just one way the group keeps the scouts active during the slower season.
“Summer is a little slow for scouting we mostly meet during the school year. And so this is the chance for our scouting families to come together, have a big last hurrah before a lot them of go off on vacation and everything and also invite their friends out and people who may not have known about scouting to come learn about it,” said Justin Bickford, Cub Master of Pack 127.
The event gave current members a chance to have fun while also introducing new families to the scouting program.
Pack 127 is open to all and offers rank advancement for boys and girls ages kindergarten through fifth grade.
Organizers say scouting helps young people build character, leadership skills and strong values through hands-on learning and outdoor experiences.
Bickford said scouting is a youth development program where much of the activity is done in the outdoors.
“It’s a place for Cub Scouts, a place for youth to have fun and learn how to be better people, better citizens, better people in their home life,” Bickford said.
Leaders say events like this help keep scouting fun while encouraging new families to get involved.
