GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)- Blackadder Brewing Company is hosting its 2nd Annual Carrot Cake Competition Saturday afternoon, with all proceeds benefiting Gainesville Rabbit Rescue, a nonprofit that has helped place unwanted or neglected rabbits into homes since 1998.

The brewery regularly partners with local charities to raise awareness and funds, and this month’s event will support the rescue’s work caring for rabbits and helping them get adopted.

“It is to support a great cause, but this carrot cake competition is serious,” said Sissy Hart, owner of Blackadder Brewing & The Abbey Event Space. Hart said cakes will be judged by three pre-selected judges, based on taste (the biggest factor), consistency, how it slices, and overall presentation and creativity.

In addition to the competition, Blackadder Brewing will host a rabbit meet-and-greet from noon to 2 p.m., where attendees can pet the bunnies and learn more about adoption.

The carrot cake competition begins at 3 p.m., and walk-ins are welcome—whether you’re entering a cake or just coming to watch and vote.
