GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A fire at an apartment complex in Gainesville kills two pets Sunday night.

Several people were displaced due to the fire. ACFR officials say no one was injured but two of the pets at the apartment died due to the smoke inhalation before crews arrived.

The American Red Cross was notified and contacted the displaced residents to assist with immediate need.

The Alachua County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. Fire rescue crews want to remind residents to regularly check your smoke detectors to ensure they are in working order.
