Cancer survivors and caregivers invited to Shared Journeys event in Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — Members of the organization Assurance, in partnership with the WellFlorida Council and North Central Florida Cancer Control Collaborative, invited cancer survivors and caregivers to their Shared Journeys event on Friday afternoon.
The free community event was designed to bring together caregivers, survivors, healthcare professionals and community organizations to focus on connection, education and shared experiences.
“I hope that this event will allow survivors and their caregivers to reflect upon their journey to see how far they’ve come and how they’re thriving now and the strength within,” said Jennifer Woodward, director of the Office of Community Outreach Engagement at UF Health Cancer Institute.
Shared Journeys will feature educational breakout sessions for both survivors and caregivers with a guided journey mapping activity allowing people to reflect on their experiences navigating cancer — from diagnosis through treatment, survivorship and caregiving.
The event runs until 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Gainesville and includes free breakfast and lunch.
