Gainesville City Commissioners ask School Board about Citizens Field purchase despite contamination

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Gainesville city commissioners voted Thursday to ask whether Alachua County school leaders might still go forward with buying Citizens Field.

On Tuesday, the school board voted to explore options to rebuilding the stadium.

City staffers explained ground contamination comes from what was once a dump north of the property, and small amounts of heating oil from a tank that was removed in the 1980s.
