United Way awards $40,000 to support working families across North Central Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — United Way North Central Florida is giving away $40,000 in grants to help support financial stability for families throughout the region.
The funding is divided in two $20,000 grants. These grants will be given to Peaceful Paths and Partnership for Strong Families. Both of these organizations provide critical services in North Central Florida.
United Way officials say the investment is intended to help ALICE households. These are people who are employed, but still struggling to afford necessities like housing, childcare and transportation.
“These investments reflect our commitment to supporting hardworking ALICE households who are often one unexpected expense away from crisis,” said United Way North Central Florida President and CEO Amber Miller.
The grant given to Peaceful Paths will support survivors of domestic violence in multiple counties, including Alachua, Bradford and Union.
These funds help cover needs like housing, childcare, and transportation. Advocates say these needs are often big barriers to survivors attempting to rebuild their lives.
The other grant will go to Partnership for Strong Families. This money will be used to fund emergency assistance programs, specifically in rural areas. The organization gives one-time financial help for essential expenses like rent, utilities, medications, vehicle repairs and childcare
United way officials say the funding is intended to fill in the gaps within assistance programs, especially for the families that don’t qualify for the traditional low-income aid but could still use the help.
The programs the grant is supporting help many counties across North Central Florida, including rural areas that may have limited resources.
Leaders say they are looking to provide immediate relief while also helping families build financial stability in the future.
United Way North Central Florida encourages locals to get involved by volunteering, donating or advocating for community families in need.
