Verve Apartments expansion heads to Gainesville planning board
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — City planning board members will review proposed changes Thursday night to a previously approved apartment development near the University of Florida.
The Verve Apartments project, located near Southwest Second Avenue and Southwest Tenth Street, would increase the maximum number of units from 204 to 227 while remaining within the same overall footprint.
The updated plan would also reconfigure the building design and add more bedrooms. The project would maintain a requirement that 15 percent of the units be set aside as affordable housing.
The developer says the changes would create more housing near the University of Florida, transit routes, and major employment centers.
Some neighbors have raised concerns about the building’s size next to the University Heights South Historic District, parking, and how the affordable housing component would work.
The Gainesville City Plan Board will discuss the proposal at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall. If the board recommends approval, the request would move to the Gainesville City Commission for final consideration.
