High Springs Police Chief Sheppard placed on administrative leave due to complaints
HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB) - City leaders in High Springs have placed the chief of police on administrative leave as they investigate alleged complaints.
In a letter, High Springs City Manager Jeremy Marshall states that Chief Antoine Sheppard has been placed on leave due to an investigation into recent complaints.
According to the city manager, Sheppard may not contact any employee or access areas for employees of the City without authorization. Sheppard will remain on administrative leave until notified otherwise by Marshall.
Details of the complaint are not included in the letter. In a statement to TV20, Sheppard said he was not told details of the allegations.
Sheppard intends to fully cooperate with the investigation; however, he notes his recent opposition to public safety budget cuts “may not have been well received.”
City leaders declined to provide a comment to TV20 on this report, citing the ongoing investigation.
Sheppard, a High Springs native, took office in September 2019 as the city’s 15th chief of police.
Sheppard’s full statement to TV20 is posted below.
