Team USA World Cup match draws Gainesville watch party crowd
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Soccer fans in Gainesville gathered to watch Team USA defeat Bosnia-Herzegovina in a World Cup match Wednesday night, with a watch party at Las Carretas bringing the community together to cheer on the U.S. Men’s National Team.
The event was hosted by Elio Piedra, chief ambassador of Telemundo Gainesville. Throughout the match, fans cheered on Team USA, celebrated big plays, and watched the game alongside others in the community.
With the 4th of July approaching, some attendees said the win added to the festive atmosphere.
“The vibe is nice I’m happy I’m excited, what an epic time for us. Right? With us getting ready to have the Fourth of July celebration and anniversary of 250 years, what an amazing opportunity for us to shine in multiple ways,” said Andreana Graham, a Gainesville resident.
Organizers said events like the watch party are about more than the final score, expressing hope that gatherings like this will continue to bring people together and build excitement for the sport as Team USA advances in the tournament.
The U.S. Men’s National Team is moving on to the Round of 16, with the next match scheduled for Monday.
