Nearly 900 speeding citations issued in Alachua County summer school zone

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies issued nearly 900 speeding citations in a summer school zone last month, according to the agency.

More than 200 of those citations were issued during the first week of summer school near Wiles Elementary and Kanapaha Middle School. That number rose in the following two weeks, with 125 citations issued in the final two days of summer school alone.

Deputies said the school zone is one of several areas where speed cameras were installed earlier this year. Violators face a $100 fine.
